The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) has been named a finalist in the International Green Gown Awards 2025, earning global recognition in the Student Engagement category for its rapidly growing student-led sustainability movement.

The nomination highlights the transformative impact of the Environmental Sustainability Initiative (ESI) Fund, which has empowered students to design and implement practical solutions that improve sustainability both on campus and in surrounding communities.

A Milestone in UNM’s Sustainability Journey

The achievement aligns closely with the goals set out in the UNM Strategic Plan 2022–26, which emphasises the university’s commitment to environmental responsibility and acknowledges the leadership shown by UNM students in driving change.

Since its launch in the 2023/24 academic year, the ESI Fund has become a cornerstone of this effort. Across its first two funding cycles, the fund awarded RM70,000 to support 16 student-led sustainability projects—ranging from waste reduction initiatives to biodiversity, digital sustainability and community education programmes.

Fostering New Generations of Changemakers

Momentum has continued into the current academic year. In 2025/26, the ESI Fund opened its third call and has already supported four additional student-led proposals. To prepare recipients for real-world implementation, UNM hosted a Start-up Workshop on 12 November 2025, where this year’s project teams received hands-on guidance from the Project Management Office, Health and Safety Office and Corporate Marketing. Past project leads from 2024/25 were also invited to share best practices and insights.

A Strong Showing on the Global Stage

While UNM did not take home the top prize this year, being shortlisted alongside leading institutions worldwide marks a significant step forward for the university’s sustainability agenda. It reflects the strength of its student community, whose creativity and commitment continue to shape a greener and more responsible campus.

As UNM continues to embed sustainability into learning, campus culture and community engagement, this recognition serves as motivation to push even further.

More Opportunities Ahead

The ESI Fund will soon open another round of submissions. Students with bold ideas for making UNM more sustainable are encouraged to stay tuned for the announcement.
