UNM Students Gain Industry Insights at Computer Science TECH Fest 2025
The Computer Science TECH Fest 2025 brought together students, academics, and industry partners for a ten-day showcase of technology, innovation, and collaboration, marking the first major flagship event since the establishment of the School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia. The event highlighted the school’s expanded industry connections and commitment to preparing students for a rapidly evolving digital workforce.
Held from October 21 to 30, TECH Fest featured a broad mix of talks, networking events, and interactive activities designed to expose students to current technological trends and future career pathways. A key highlight was the school’s first industrial visit, organised in collaboration with Career Advisory Services, which saw students visiting the CelcomDigi AI Experience Centre (AiX).
During the visit, participants gained first-hand insight into how AI, 5G, and digital innovation are driving transformation across sectors such as oil and gas, healthcare, agriculture, and education. Industry experts also provided perspectives on emerging opportunities and the skills required to thrive in technology-driven careers.
Building Community Through Social and Alumni Activities
Alongside career-focused activities, TECH Fest incorporated several social events—such as Hello World, Alumni Experience Sharing, and Murder Mystery—which contributed to strengthening peer interaction and school community culture.

The annual School 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ Dinner served as a platform to welcome new and returning students, featuring live dance and singing performances that created a celebratory atmosphere. The dinner also included a birthday celebration for the Head of School, Professor Chen ZhiYuan, adding to the sense of camaraderie and school spirit.
Practical Learning Through Student Leadership
As a fully student-led initiative, TECH Fest offered practical opportunities for committee members to develop transferable skills in leadership, teamwork, logistics, and event management, while also navigating real-time challenges associated with large-scale planning. These learning experiences contributed to the personal and professional growth of students involved.
