Dato’ Dr Munirah Looi is one person for whom the phrase ‘It cannot be done’ holds little meaning. From her days in school and college, she has always forged her own path—undeterred by the naysayers.
Starting her career in a local bank, Dr Munirah was well known even in those early days as someone who would volunteer for any new project, no matter her experience or lack thereof. Her mantra has always been ‘if it can be learnt, I will learn it’.
This spirit of derring-do led her to Citibank and there her career took off. She was one of the first women appointed global leader of a business unit. Having honed her skills at Citibank, Dr Munirah then jumped into the challenging world of entrepreneurship.
Starting as a two-person show, she grew Brandt International into one of the largest business process outsourcing (BPO) companies in the region. She remarks: ”Risk taking is second nature to me. I like to jump first, then learn to build my parachute.”
Dr Munirah has never let any barrier, real or perceived, stop her from reaching her goals. Glass ceilings for this extraordinary woman is a challenge, and she has spent a lifetime smashing through them.
Today, she is recognised as a champion of women’s rights, an inspiration for women everywhere. She firmly believes that a just, equitable society can be built by educating and empowering women.
The Malaysian Government has tapped her to serve on the Board of MyDigital Corp and she is also an executive council member of MyCenter 4IR, which seek to chart Malaysia’s digital transformation and green energy transition.
She is happy to serve as part of her national service and to give back to the country that has blessed her in so many ways.
The 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM) has also recognised Dato’ Munirah Looi’s many achievements and contributions to society, conferring on her a Doctor of Laws (Honoris Causa).
One may think that Dr Munirah has achieved it all, but that would be wrong. Post-Brandt International, Dr Munirah is now Strategic Adviser to Blue Onion and Angkasa X. She has also set up a boutique consultancy firm that specialises in helping organisations on transformative paths.
Dr Munirah was once voted one of the top 10 Most Inspiring CEOs, but she is much more than that. As a mother, wife, daughter, entrepreneur and business leader, she continues to inspire and shape the dreams and ambitions of women everywhere.
