“In a fast-changing global environment, UNM stands as a pillar of educational excellence providing the grounding for academics and students for discernable impact in the real world”

DR TRICIA YEOH

Associate Professor of Practice
School of Politics and International Relations

For observers of Malaysian politics, the name Dr Tricia Yeoh will not be an unfamiliar one. Formerly the Chief Executive Officer of IDEAS, Dr Tricia is now an Associate Professor of Practice at the School of Politics and International Relations at the 188体育网址_188体育在线-【唯一授权网站】@ of Nottingham Malaysia (UNM).

Soft spoken but with a tinge of steel in her voice, Dr Yeoh recounted her journey from academia to ‘Think & Do’ tanks and finally back to her first love in academia.

Whilst well known in academic circles, she wanted to impact social and political policy at a fundamental level.

Dr Yeoh brings that same passion to her lecture halls now where young minds are taught the vital value of deep and accurate research and clear communication to drive policy development and implementation.

Using her vast connection in the world of politics and administration, she takes her students on eye opening visits and forums with Members of Parliament and decision makers in government.

Dr Yeoh’s practical approach to academia, where social and economic impact is an important yardstick runs through the school, from the Dean down to the students.

It is a happy union for Dr Yeoh as her thirst for knowledge and research as part of the solution for political, economic and social issues has found a nurturing partner in UNM.

She understands the need for academics to come down from their ivory towers and impact real world problems. Dr Yeoh trains her students to write and communicate effectively and efficiently, to reach a larger audience and to connect with all strata of society.

UNM has been a catalyst for her to move from her research economy space to the practical space where national level decisions and policies are debated, developed and ultimately executed for the betterment of society.

Dr Yeoh earnestly believes that “in a fast-changing global environment, UNM stands as a pillar of educational excellence providing the grounding for academics and students for discernable impact in the real world.”
